After shooting a pilot episode for $500 in 48 hours, my writing partner and I raised $20,000 on Kickstarter to fund six more episodes of The Outs. The show went on to develop a passionate global fan base, waiting every two weeks for a new episode to drop just as fast as we could produce them.

Vimeo picked up the show for a second season, allowing us to turn the production value up higher and deliver full 30-minute episodes. With guest stars like Alan Cumming and Dan Savage, music by Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij, and spotlight events by the Paley Center for Media and the Brooklyn Museum, The Outs raised the bar for what was possible in the web series or “indie tv” space.
